Trials Tyres for H&H...???????

can anyone tell me if using a rear trials tyre would be a sensible idea for H&H enduro events for a beginner on a ccm 600......
I'm not totally **** with knobblies but i am being put off by the thought of those things on the back

It depends on 2 things -
Are you allowed to use a trials tyre? - lots of Welsh clubs won't allow them.
If you have a tyre choice, then what sort ground are you racing over?

On sand and rocks a well prepared trials tyre setup is fantastic, but on clay based soil you'll get no traction!

The weight of a CCM600 would I imagine cause a few issues, to get grip with a trials tyre you need to run them 'flatish' - meaning about 6 to 10 psi depending on which type of trials tyre and bike model. But with a normal tube punctures are very likely.

Fitting a 'low pressure' mousse is best - for no punctures - but is expensive. Fitting a thick enduro tube, with a 'spare' tube skin wrapped outside as well, works pretty good also.

I am going to be doing all my races this year on a Trail tyre (X11 Mich) with an old moose fitted.
inc the Powys and Beach race. I find that the only down side for me is braking on wet grass but once I master that then I can,t fault them. Roots, rocks are no problem and as long as you keep them spinning then even deep mud is OK.

This just my opinion from my experince with riding on them idea.gif

Thanks, i was thinking of the camel vale & exmoor clubs that only allow trials on rear...i did one with exmoor last year when they allowed enduro rear and found the club/marshals to be excellant!!!! even if everyone took the piss big time out of my bike, and the ones that didn't say anything looked  and looked ha ha....
I guess my main concern is the weight of the bike on steep slippery slopes up and down and cambers in fields etc....
I will definately try the 2 tube affair and just enter and see how it go's
